The Young and the Restless: Killing Caper

Image captured from Y&R YT Channel episode aired 1-6-15
One of the advantages to having my own blog is that I can say what I am thinking without the repercussions from an editor.  I have been thinking about the KILLING CAPER that is occurring on the Young and the Restless right now.  Some might read the headline and think Caper, this is not a CAPER but I think the word fits perfectly for what is happening on The Young and the Restless today.

The pure definition of the word is:  an activity or escapade, typically one that is illicit or ridiculous.  Synonyms for the word CAPER are stunt, monkey business, escapade, prank, trick, foolery, tomfoolery, antics and well you get my point.

With soaps are we ever allowed to refer to the recent past to see whether or not a current story-line is completely inaccurate?  Can we look to the recent past to discover that what was happening then could actually be the cause and effect of what is happening today?

I have read what I consider ridiculous spoilers for the near future on Y&R.  The crap about Sharon being the killer and having DID.  Sharon was with Faith on Valentine’s Day.  She skidded off the road and hit her head.  She and Faith walked back to their house so it couldn’t have happened too far from home.  Dylan saw her car on the side of the road and came to her house and took care of her and Faith.  Are we to believe that Sharon was running around killing Austin with her daughter in Tow?

She may have skid into the car that Austin’s body was put into or she may even have had an accident involving a scrupulous Austin but she did not MURDER him by any stretch of the imagination.

I can’t stand when so call news media makes up story-lines for page reads and that is probably what is happening there with the Sharon spoilers.

So let’s look back in the recent past.  I am thinking about New Years Eve.  Courtney was very upset because she did not get an engagement ring from Noah and he basically laughed at the thought of marriage.  It was weighing heavy on her mind.  She was thinking about it on New Year’s Eve (see embedded photo)

Let’s talk about Abby and the surprise kiss on New Year’s Eve.  What has happened to that cop Mark Harding?  It seemed he was going to have a story-line and then ZAP nothing.  He grabbed Abby on New Year’s Eve and gave her a big kiss.  (See photo embedded)

Now let’s think about Summer and Austin.  People are saying that Austin only married Summer because of her family money.  Quite frankly folks, Austin and Summer got married so Summer wouldn’t have to testify against him at his trial that didn’t happen.  Austin really had no reason to want to GET EVEN with Summer or her family other than Nick being angry with him when he didn’t tell him about the building inspector coming around.  That was such a forced story-line and you could tell that it was forced with Austin’s cavalier attitude when asked why he didn’t tell Nick 3 times.  “Oh, I just forgot about it.”  What was that?  I thought that was weird at the time.  After their marriage, and with the other writers, they were genuinely in story-line love.  The holidays they celebrated in case Austin wasn’t around for them were very cute and heartfelt.  Their New Year’s Eve together was also heart-felt (see photo embedded)

It is obvious that the character of Austin is a casualty of Pratt and his writing team and they may be rewriting history as they are writing into the future.  I wish they wouldn’t do that.  There really are ways to create story-lines without re-writing history.  Viewers are smarter than that and it can be downright insulting.

I want to say thank you to the people that are reading my blogs.  I will keep writing as long as you keep reading.  We are not always going to agree but I do hope that you enjoy most of what I write and I write to share with you.
