Days of our Lives: Mother's Day special

Kassie DePaiva and Melissa Reeves
Since it is Mother’s Day and the writers at Days just made Theresa, the most unlikely to have a baby and like being a mother a mother, it is a good time to write a piece about two real wonderful moms on the show who give so much to their children.

Let’s start with Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves) who has been on the show the whole time she has been raising her children.  Since 1985, Melissa has portrayed the character of Jennifer Horton.  She has raised two children and been married to fellow actor Scott Reeves who was recently Dr. Steve Webber on General Hospital but now has a role on the ABC Hit Primetime Show, “Nashville.”  Scott is not only an actor but he is a singer songwriter.  So is Melissa and Scott’s daughter Emily.

LGS recently had the opportunity to see both Scott and Melissa perform at a venue in the Nashville area and enjoyed them very much.  After the show LGS spoke with Scott Reeves briefly and he bragged on how wonderful his wife is and how she is the one that commutes from LA to TN where they maintain their main home.
Melissa’s daughter is making a career for herself in Nashville with her parents full support and Melissa travels back and forth across the country so that can happen for her daughter and also her husband who’s show “Nashville,” is filmed in Nashville.

The other Mom we want to talk about is the character Eve Donovan played by Kassie DePaiva who has gotten a bad rap and reputation since joining the cast of Days of our Lives last year.  Kassie DePaiva is a lifelong soap Veteran.  She spent nearly 20 years on ABC’s defunct One Life to Live right up until it was cancelled and she also participated in the short lived online version of the show produced by Prospect Park.  She loved that show so much she would have gone anywhere with it.
Kassie DePaiva and her son James

Kassie  comes from the South and when you speak to her, she very much has a southern accent.  She is also a country singer and has had a few albums released over the years.  Kassie met and fell in love with the love of her life, fellow actor James DePaiva on the set of One Life to Live.  James played the part of Max Holden on OLTL. They married shortly after and a few years after that, she gave birth to their only child, a little boy James, who was born deaf.

When he was old enough they got him a cochlear implant which allowed him to hear.  James left One Life to Live and pursued directing and producing aspirations.  Kassie kept on keeping on working at One Life to Live, raised her little boy and participated in benefit shows raising funds for whatever was needed at the time and being a great on set Mom to the 3 kids One Life to Live gave her.  At home she was a terrific mother to her now almost totally grown son who lives a normal and happy life.

While these two women are very much enemy’s on the show, in their real lives, they are very much alike and they are both wonderful Moms!  Happy Mother’s Day Melissa Reeves and Kassie DePaiva and thanks for sharing your talent with the world and still managing to be there for your kids.  You have proven that women can do it all.

UPDATE on our SPECIAL PROJECT
Before we go we wanted to share our special project with you.  If you have a minute, please read below.  This is a true story about a little boy who will pull at your heartstrings and shows us all what real courage is about.

Super Storm Sandy didn’t just change lives up North.  The aftermath of that storm caused a huge branch to snap in the playground of a day care where this precious little 2 year old boy was playing.  That little boy’s name is Tripp Halstead.  That branch caused traumatic brain injury as it literally crushed a large section of Tripp’s skull which damaged his brain.

The doctors really didn’t think he would survive but he did.  After 6 months, and to date, 16 surgeries, this little boy is now 4 years old and growing, trying to talk, smiling and moving his arms and legs.  He is featured in my new book, “The Traveling Jalapeno’s Meet Tripp Halstead,” which will be available on Amazon soon.  I have written a song that offers hope and inspiration that where there is life, there can be a miracle.  Tripp inspired the song and it is called, “The Little Boy That Could – Tripp’s Song.”  That song has been released on iTunes.  We have great news!!  The song is almost at 1000 downloads its first week on iTunes.  To hear a sample of the song, check out the YouTube promo.

I want to say thank you to the people that are reading my blogs.  I will keep writing as long as you keep reading.  We are not always going to agree but I do hope that you enjoy most of what I write and I write to share with you.
